Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove patient to fresh air. Symptomatic treatment.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Wash with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Seek medical

advice if irritation occurs.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove and launder contaminated clothing.

Wash affected area with soap and water.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water fog, foam, dry chemical or dry powder may be used.

Product arising from burning: Products of combustion may contain oxides of carbon and

silcon compounds together with styrene and some soot.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: A self-contained, positive pressure breathing apparatus and

full protective clothing should be worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear suitable protective clothing, see 2.3.1.

Absorb spillages with a suitable inert material. Carefully

transfer the spillage to waste containers. Dispose of waste

material in accordance with local regulations. Ventilate

area and wash spill site.

Avoid discharge to watercourses.

Handling and storage

Handling: Observe the usual precautions for handling organic

chemicals.

Engineering controls are necessary to reduce exposure to the

substance. Use local exhaust ventilation to control airborne

levels below the exposure guidelines. Personal protective

equipment, eye protection (eg chemical goggles) and

chemical-resistant gloves, boots and an apron or full body

suit should be worn depending on the operation to be

performed. Such protective equipment should conform to the

appropriate national or international standards. When

respiratory protection is required an approved air-purifying

respirator should be worn.

Storage: Store in sealed containers in the dark away from heat and

sources of ignition.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Preparations containing the substance are available in both

polyethylene or glass containers with collapsable Teflon(R)

sealed bag liners. Some formulations are stored and shipped

cold to protect the quality of the product and extend

shelf-life.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Avoid contact with strong oxidising agents.

Hazardous polymerisation can occur with heat. Do not expose

to temperatures greater than 120 deg C.

Chemical reaction with water: None reported.

Dust explosion: Not applicable, the substance is a glass/viscous liquid.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for recycling from spillages or accidental

discharge is not economically or technically feasible.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: No treatment is practical to neutralise the hazardous

environmental properties.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: The substance may be disposed of by landfill at an

authorised tip in accordance with local regulations. (A650)

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration at a

licensed waste treatment processor in accordance with local

regulations. Stack gases should be scrubbed to remove

styrene and silicon compounds. (A661)

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for reuse is not possible.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - others: The substance will only enter the public domain as part of

an article. Electronic goods containing the article may be

disposed of as for domestic waste unless local Regulations

require otherwise.
