Waiving: studies not technically feasible due to the high reactivity with water
Sodium hydride is a strong base which
reacts nearly spontaneously when exposed to water forming sodium
Due to this reactivity with water and the
formation of the strong base, Sodium hydroxide, this substance is
predicted to be corrosive to both the skin and to eyes.
Based on the classification for sodium
hydroxide, this substance should be classified as Skin Corrosive,
category 1A, H314, according to CLP.
However the test item is usually marketed
in mineral oil, that as a stabilizer prevents flammability. For this
reason this substance (sodium hydride in mineral oil) is not classified
