Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test item pile. The test item melted, burned with a blue yellow flame, emitted sparks and turned into a brown residue. Grey smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 2 seconds and no propagation of combustion was observed.

The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of naphthenic acids, zinc salts. No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 2 minutes was observed. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained, the test item is considered ‘not flammable’.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
Naphthenic acids, zinc salts was determined to be not highly flammable.
Executive summary:

The flammability of naphthenic acids, zinc salts was determined in a GLP-compliant test, following UN N.1 (CRL 2018). The study is considered relevant and reliable for use. The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of Naphthenic acids, zinc salts. No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 2 minutes was observed. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained, the test item isconsidered ‘not flammable’.

Description of key information

Naphthenic acids, zinc salts was determined to be not highly flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
