Specific details on test material used for the study:
SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL
- Name: dermofeel® PA-12
- CAS No.: 17211-15-3 (old CAS mentioned in study: 14306-25-3)
- EC No.: 241-253-9 (old EC mentioned in study: 238-242-6)
- Source and lot/batch No.of test material: 585542
- Appearance: white solid powder
- Production date: May 2016
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: May 2019

STABILITY AND STORAGE CONDITIONS OF TEST MATERIAL
- Storage condition of test material: The test item was stored in the test facility in a closed vessel at room temperature
(16.0 – 21.6°C) protected from light and humidity.

TREATMENT OF TEST MATERIAL PRIOR TO TESTING
- Treatment of test material prior to testing: The test item was ground and dried at least overnight. Drying was done in a desiccator.
- Preliminary purification step (if any): not applicable
- Final dilution of a dissolved solid, stock liquid or gel: not applicable
- Final preparation of a solid: not applicable

OTHER SPECIFICS:
Homogeneity: homogenous
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
>= 63.05 - <= 65.91 °C
Decomposition:
no

Pre-test for melting range

The capillary tube containing the test item was set into the block at 18.0 °C. The block was heated until melting started. The temperature was noted at which the first signs of melting

of the test item were observed. When the substance was completely melted, the temperature should be noted again. All observations of the Pre-test for melting range are presented

in the following table.

Table     Results of the pre-test for melting range

Observations

Temperature

The test item stated to melt

75 °C

The test item melted to a turbid liquid like gel. Probably decomposition or transition phase

88 °C

Much less than test item was observed, the test tem stayed in white-transparent form and sticky

After cooling down

Interpretation

In all DSC measurements two endo thermic events were detected. According to the pre-tests the first event can be identified as melting point.

The second event can be identified as boiling point. As the deviation of melting and boiling point from three independent determinations are higher than 0.5 K, a range of melting and boiling point are stated.

Presentation of results

All results of melting point are presented in the following table.

Validity

As the deviations between determinations are > 0.5 K, a range of melting point is stated.

Conclusions:
Melting range evaluated by DSC: 63.05 °C to 65.91 °C (336.20 K to 339.06 K)
Executive summary:

The determination of the melting and boiling point of dermofeel® PA-12 was performed via DSC (differential scanning calorimetry). In all runs two events were detected. The events

are endothermic and the first event is stated as the melting range under these circumstances as:

53.57 ± 0.30 °C (326.72 ± 0.30 K)

Description of key information

Melting range is 63.05 °C to 65.91 °C (336.20 K to 339.06 K) (OECD 102, DSC method).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The melting and boiling point was determined via DSC (differential scanning calorimetry)

In all runs two events were detected. The events are endothermic and the first event is stated as the melting range under these circumstances

as:

63.05 °C to 65.91 °C (336.20 K to 339.06 K)
