Additional information

There are no experimental data on the acute toxicity of the reaction product of 2,4-Dinitrotoluene and 2.6-Dinitrotoluene and hydrogen, deaminated (MCHAmix, EC 943-517-5) to aquatic invertebrates. Therefore, a read-across approach was applied to 2-Methylcyclohexylamine (CAS 7003-32-9), which is one of the representative constituents of MCHAmix (EC 943 -517 -5), and to 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1) which is a structurally similar substance.

Both available studies were performed according to OECD 202 using Daphnia magna as test species. Test solutions were not pH-adjusted; however, some of the test solutions in the study on 2 -methylcyclohexylamine (CAS 7003 -32 -9) were performed in parallel with pH-adjustment in order to investigate pH-effects of the test substance on the immobilisation.

The source chemical 2-Methylcyclohexylamine (CAS 7003-32-9) has a 48-h EC50 value was 16.5 mg/L (analytically verified, not pH-adjusted). Testing of pH-adjusted test concentrations at (25 to 100 mg/L) showed significantly lower inhibiting effects on mobility at 50 and 100 mg/L (48-h, BASF AG, 1987, rep. no.: 1/1130/2/87).

Based on the available experimental data, the source substance 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1) has a 48-h EC50 value of 36.29 mg/L (nominal, BASF AG, 1987, rep. no.: 1/0306/2/87-0306). The results are based on nominal test concentrations in not pH-adjusted solutions.

As CAS 7003 -32 -9 had a higher effect on the immobilization, this study was selected as key study.
