Description of key information

Log Kow: -2.4, -2.2 and -2.7 at 20°C for methylsilanetriol, dimer and trimer of methylsilanetriol, respectively.

Additional information

The requirement to conduct a log Kow study for the submission substance is waived. The study would be technically difficult because the substance is a salt that is only stable in aqueous solution at high pH (>12).

In solution at pH 9 or below and low concentration (conditions relevant for the environment), methylsilanetriol will predominate. A log Kow value of -2.4 was determined for methylsilanetriol using a validated QSAR estimation method. Under certain conditions, the dimer and trimer of methylsilanetriol may be formed. Log Kow values of -2.2 and -2.7 were predicted for the dimer and trimer respectively using a validated QSAR estimation method. The potassium salt of methylsilanetriol will behave no differently to the parent silanol under equivalent conditions of concentration and pH.
