Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Inhalation

In high concentrations may cause asphyxiation. Symptoms may include loss of mobility/consciousness. Victim may not be aware of asphyxiation. In low concentrations may cause narcotic effects. Symptoms may include dizziness, headache, nausea and loss of coordination.

Remove victim to uncontaminated area wearing self contained breathing apparatus. Keep victim warm and rested. Call adoctor. Apply artificial respiration if breathing stopped.

Skin/eye contact

For liquid spillage - flush with water for at least 15 minutes

Ingestion

Ingestion is not considered a potential route of exposure

Fire-fighting measures

Specific hazards

Exposure to fire may cause containers to rupture/explode.

Hazardous combustion products

If involved in a fire the following toxic and/or corrosive fumes may beproduced by thermal decomposition:

Carbon monoxide, Hydrogen fluoride, Carbonyl fluoride.

Suitable extinguishing media

All known extinguishants can be used.

Specific methods

If possible, stop flow of product. Move container away or cool with water from a protected position. Do not extinguish a leaking gas flame unless absolutely necessary. Spontaneous/explosive reignition may occur. Extinguish any other fire.

Special protective equipment for fire fighters

Use self-contained breathing apparatus and chemically protective clothing.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus when entering area unless atmosphere is proved to be safe. Evacuate area. Ensure adequate air ventilation. Eliminate ignition sources.

Environmental precautions

Try to stop release. Prevent from entering sewers, basements and workpits, or any place where its accumulation can be dangerous.

Clean up methods

Ventilate area. Keep area evacuated and free from ignition sources until any spilled liquid has evaporated. (Ground free from frost).

Handling and storage

Handling

Ensure equipment is adequately earthed. Suck back of water into the container must be prevented. Purge air from system before introducing gas. Do not allow backfeed into the container. Use only properly specified equipment which is suitable for this product, its

supply pressure and temperature. Contact your gas supplier if in doubt. Keep away from ignition sources (including static discharges).

Storage

Segregate from oxidant gases and other oxidants in store. Refer to supplier's handling instructions. Keep container below 50°C in a well ventilated place.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Personal protection

Ensure adequate ventilation. Do not smoke while handling product. Carry working gloves and protection shoes while handling gas cylinders

Stability and reactivity

Thermal decomposition yields toxic products which can be corrosive in the presence of moisture. Can form explosive mixture with air. May react violently with oxidants.

Disposal considerations

Do not discharge into areas where there is a risk of forming anexplosive mixture with air. Waste gas should be flared through a suitable burner with flash back arrestor. Toxic and corrosive gases formed during combustion should be scrubbed before discharge to atmosphere. Do not discharge into any place where its accumulation could be dangerous. Contact supplier if guidance is required.
