To assess the aquatic hazard potential of pentane-1,2 -diol, acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed. The most sensitive test organism was Daphnia magna with an EC50 (48h) >500 mg/L. In fish ((Danio rerio) a LC50 (96 h) > 1096 mg/L was detected. The EC50 determined in algae after 72 hours was 9335 mg/L regarding the growth rate of Scenedesmus subspicatus.
Thus, pentane-1,2 -diol is considered to be with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms.
