Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Ammonium salts of primary fatty amines (e.g. acetates) are so called cationic surfactants and due to their positive charge they behave differently than the corresponding free amine with respect to water and octanol solubilty as well as partitioning e.g. to solid surfaces.

When determining the water solubility of the alkylamine acetates, their surface active property has to be taken in account: single hydrated molecules are found up to their respective critical micelle concentration (CMC), only. At higher concentrations, molecules will be aggregating to form micells. Therefore, as a substitute of the water solubility, the CMC is used for surface active compounds.

The critical micelle concentration of the test substance was determined according to ISO 4311. At 25 °C, the critical micelle concentration is 0.73 +/- 0.17 g/L.
