Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Daphnia and algae studies were available on similar substance 1 and 2 and therefore were used to assess the endpoint for Disperse Blue 73.

According to the results, Disperse Blue 073 is non-toxic to aquatic species:

EC50 (48 h) to Daphnia species > 100 mg/l, based on read across on similar substance 1

EC50 (72 h) to algae: Scenedesmus subspicatus > 100 mg/l, based on read across on similar substance 2

The read across justification is discussed in section 13.

Some test (Dystar and Huntsman) are available for disperse Blue 73 for short fish toxicity and activated sludge; these studies are not reliable and they lack of many information therefore they were not inserted and not used in support for the evaluation of the ecotoxicological profile

Neverthless, Physico-chemical tests with the test substance demonstrated a very poor water solubility of the test substance with an overall solubility of less than 5 mg/L; also the similar substances 1 and 2 show a very poor water solubility.

In the Daphnia and Algae test, the nominal concentration of the tested substance is used, even if it surely exceed the solubility of the tested substance. Therefore the substance can be considered not toxic up to the solubility limit.

Because of the limit of solubility is below the threshold for classification, the loading concentration are commonly used and therefore the substances can be considered as not toxic for the aquatic compartement.
