Results and discussion

% Degradation
Parameter:
% degradation (O2 consumption)
Value:
>= 3 - <= 10
Sampling time:
28 d
Remarks on result:
other: calculated based on theoretical oxygen demand mg O/mg test substance
Details on results:
The test substance pentene-1 was oxidised to 3 - 10% of the theoretical oxygen demand by day 28. The shape of the biodegradation curve suggests that a lag period of at least 5 days occurred before any degradation started and that degradation would have continued after 28 days.
Slight inhibition of microbial activity, as seen in the positive control group, under test conditions is not considered to be significant.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Interpretation of results:
other: not readily biodegradable
Conclusions:
Pentene-1 was tested in the Closed Bottle test which is suitable for such volatile compounds. In this test the amount of oxygen consumed
in 28 days was only 3 - 10% of the theoretical oxygen demand.
Pentene-1 caused no significant inhibition of the microorganisms in the test system. Pentene-1 was not "readily biodegradable" in this test.
Executive summary:

Pentepe-1 was tested in the Closed Bottle test which is suitable for such volatile compounds. In this test the amount of oxygen consumed

in 28 days was only 3 - 10% of the theoretical oxygen demand.

Pentene-1 caused no significant inhibition of the microorganisms in the test system. Pentene-1 was not "readily biodegradable" in this test.

There are no information available regarding the GLP status of test facility however the test followed the adopted test guidelines. Therefore a

reliability of 2 is assigned.
