Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The melting and boiling temperature of di C8-C10, branched, C9 rich, alkylnaphthalene sulphonic acid (DNNSA) and Barium bis (di C8-C10, branched, C9 rich, alkylnaphthalene sulphonate) (BaDNNSA) were determined using DSC. The melting temperature (glass transition) of the acid was -18°C (255K). For BaDNNSA reaction and/or decomposition of the substance was observed. Based on structural similarities it is expected that MgDNNSA decomposes before melting. No value for the melting point can be assessed.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The results on Barium bis (di C8-C10, branched, C9 rich, alkylnaphthalene sulphonate) were chosen for the read-across, because this salt is a solid like magnesium bis (di C8-C10, branched, C9 rich, alkylnaphthalene sulphonate), while the acid is a liquid at room temperature.
