Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The chronic earthworm test was carried out in accordance with OECD TG 222 and GLP. Adult earthworms (Eisenia andrei) were exposed to nominal concentrations of 4.08, 7.35, 13.2, 23.8, 42.9, 77.2, 139 and 250 mg substance /kg soil. 9 treatment groups (8 test item concentrations, control), 4 replicates for the test item treatments and 8 replicates for the control with 10 earthworms each. The test material at appropriate concentrations were dissolved in acetone, mixed with quartz sand and allowed to slowly evaporate. Treated sand was then mixed with standard artificial soil containing 10% Sphagnum peat, 20% kaolinite clay, approximately 69.9% fine quartz-sand (grain size 0.05-0.2 mm) and 0.4% calcium carbonate to adjust to pH 6.0±0.5. Weights of the adult worms ranged between 302 and 588 mg. The earthworms were placed on the surface of the artificial soil after application. The worms were fed weekly with finely ground cattle manure. Adult worms were removed after 28 days of exposure, counted and weighed. The remaining offspring remained in the test containers for another four weeks to assess reproduction rate. Results: The NOEC for mortality and weight changes of the earthworm Eisenia andrei was determined to be 139 mg test item/kg soil. The EC10 for reproduction was determined to be the concentration of 54 (13.5-75.3) mg test item/kg soil.
