Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The distribution of PnB in the various environmental media has been estimated using the Mackay Level III fugacity modeling approach (EPIWIN). Such models estimate relative distribution within different environmental compartments, based on key physical and chemical property parameters. The Level III estimated the mass balances for PnB (at equilibrium reflect the limited volatilization and high water solubility characteristics of the PnB and indicate a preference for partitioning to water and soil. This substance possesses physical properties that suggest that once it enters the aqueous compartment, it tends to remain dissolved in water.

The soil/water-sediment/water partition coefficient (Koc) for PnB is 1.3 using the EPIWIN/PCKOCWIN. This result suggests that PnB has high soil mobility. Thus, PnB can leach from soil deposits to groundwater, but can also be transported to environments where aerobic biodegradation can take place. Therefore, it can be concluded that the ultimate compartment is the aquatic compartment.
