Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Based on REACH regulation annex IX column 2 (specific rules for adaptation from column 1) the study need not be conducted if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (for instance a log Kow < 3) and/or a low potential to cross biological membranes. Partition coefficient was estimated resulting in a logPow of -3.27

There are no empirical bioaccumulation data available for Direct Black 22 (DBk22), therefore available data on water solubility, molecular weight and cross-sectional diameter have also been considered in order to determine the bioaccumulation potential of DBk22, as well as the physical and chemical properties of the relevant analogues (disulfonated dyes) used in a Canadian screening assessment of dye characterization [1].

DBk22 is a relatively large molecule and is expected to have a low bioaccumulation potential due to its physical and chemical properties and based on the comparison with analogues.
