Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In the key-study a NOEC for invertebrates of 0.27 mg/L for reproduction could be determined after 21 days of exposure. Nevertheless for the PNEC-calculation NOEC-values were determined on the basis of a QSAR-model based on chronic risk to invertebrates. The NOEC used for PNEC-calculation is determined to be 0.96 mg/L.

Additional information

For AES (C12-18, 1-2.5EO) Na (CAS 68081-91-4) no chronic test on invertebrates is available. Thus read-across is prepared to tests conducted with other alcohol ethoxysulfates (C12 -14 EO2.5, C14 -15 EO2.5). Those studies representing the worst-case concerning aquatic toxicity of alcohol ethoxysulfates. One chronic invertebrate study is available for the alcohol C12 -14 ethoxysulfates (EO2.5). In that study which is conducted by Makki (P&G, 1977) equivalent to the OECD guideline 211 a NOEC for surival and reproduction was determined to be 0.27 mg/L after 21 days. That reliable study is determined to be the key study. The results of that key study could be confirmed by two reliable tests conducted with comparable mixtures, alcohol C14 -15 ethoxysulfates (EO2.5) (Hoberg & Pittinger, P&G, 1987 and Belanger et al., P&G, 1997) resulting in NOEC-values of 0.18 mg/L (after 21 days) and 0.730 mg/L (after 8 weeks). These values are within the same range as the NOEC described by Makki (P&G, 1977). In addition, a further test conducted with alcohol C12 -14 ethoxylated sulfphated sodium salt is available which reportes an NOEC-value of 0.72 mg/L (Berger & Guhl, Cognis, 1998). That study could not be fully evaluated as only a short summary is available.
