Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The test item consists of two components DEG-monophthalate and DEG-bisphthalate. The results for both individual components as well as its sum are reported.

Short-term toxicity to invertebrates:

In order to test acute toxicity to invertebrates (Daphnia magna) of Ester PSA + DEG was exposed to the test solution of 1 nominal concentration of the test substance (100 mg/L) and blank control solution for a period of 48 hours under static conditions. Mobility and visible abnormalities were recorded at 24 and 48 hours. The measured concentrations confirmed that deviation from the nominal concentrations was less then 21 % (measured concentrations were in the range of 80.2 - 104.2 % of nominal concentrations. No toxic effect and abnormal behavior were observed.

Short-term toxicity to fish:

An acute daphnia range finding toxicity test preceded the fish test and provided information about the range of concentrations which were used in the fish test. The following nominal concentration of the test item was tested in the daphnia range finding test: 100 mg/L.

Because of the anticipated low toxicity of the test item, fish were exposed in the fish test to a limit test concentration of nominally 100 mg/L for a period of 96 hours. As no toxic effects against fish were observed, no statistical analysis was required to determine the LC 50. Additionally any abnormal behavior or appearance of the fish was reported every 24 hours.

After 96 hours of exposure a LC50 of >100 mg/L (nominal) was determined.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria:

In order to test acute toxicity of algae, Desmodesmus subspicatus, of Ester PSA + DEG were exposed to the test solution of five nominal concentrations of the test substance ( 6.3, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mg/L) and blank control solution for a period of 72 h under static conditions. The cell densities were measured at 24 hour intervals. Inhibition of the algal population was measured as reduction in growth rate (index r), relative to control cultures grown under identical conditions. The measured concentrations confirmed that deviation from the nominal concentrations was less than 30 % (measured concentrations were in the range of 95.5 - 101.4 % of nominal concentrations). An ErC50 of 157.4 mg/L was determined and a NOEC[r] of 100 mg/L was calculated.

Toxicity to microorganisms:

In order to test the toxicity to microorganism of the substance, activated sludge from predominantly domestic sewage plant was exposed to the test solution of three nominal concentrations of the substance (10, 100, 1000 mg/L), blank control solution and

solution with positive reference substance for a period of 3 hours. Dissolved oxygen was recorded and respiration rates were claculated. 0.0 % respiration inhibition was observed at the highest concentration of test substance.
