Description of key information

The inhibition of algal growth of Basic Yellow 28 methyl sulfate was EC50 biomass: 0.14 mg/L and EC50 growth rate: 0.21 mg/L without taking into account inhibition of growth due to the UV absorption by the dyestuff.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
0.21 mg/L

Additional information

To investigate potential harmful effects of the test item on aquatic algae or cyanobacteria, an algal growth inhibition test was performed. The test was performed with four test concentrations between 0.032 mg/L and 1 mg/L. With regard to biomass and growth rate, EC50 (72h) values of 0.14 mg/L and 0.21 mg/L were determined, respectively. The ErC10 (72 h) was determined to be 0.02 mg/L,

without taking into account inhibition of growth due to the UV absorption by the dyestuff.
