The substance is not explosive, based on evaluation of oxygen balance and via a DSC study on the substance.
Executive summary:

In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII,7.11 the study does not need to be conducted if:

– there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule;

or

– the substance contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties which include oxygen and the calculated oxygen balance is less than –200;

or

– the organic substance or a homogenous mixture of organic substances contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties, but the exothermic decomposition energy is less than 500 J/g and the onset of exothermic decomposition is below 500 ºC.

 

An evaluation of the substance has concluded as follows:

 

1) There are metal alkyl bonds present within the chemical structure which are associated with explosive properties.

 

2) However, evaluation of the oxygen balance values of a number of the theoretical substances that could be present as part of the UVCB substance indicates that all calculated oxygen balance values are of greater negative than -200. As such, explosivity is not predicted for the substance.

 

3)DSC analysis of the substance delivered exothermal decomposition energy -187.8J/g. This is less than the 500J/g specified; in addition the onset ofexothermic decomposition is predicted at below 500 ºC. As such, the substance is also not potentially explosive on the basis of the DSC evaluation. A copy of the report is appended below.

 

In conclusion, the substance is not potentially explosive, based on both oxygen balance values and exothermal decomposition energy. This, coupled with the manner of handling and use, indicates that the substance has no concern for explosivity endpoints, and this study is waived on these grounds.
