Bioaccessibility measurement of soil samples from 4 locations at a site contaminated with mining waste and located in a high carbonate soil in the south of France. The test consists a 3-step extraction procedure and simulates the chemical processes occuring in the mouth, stomach and intestine compartments using synthetic digestive solutions.

For all soil samples Pb bioavailability was significantly higher in the saliva-gastric phase compared to the intestinal phase. Higher bioavailability in gastric phase is due to the lower pH which facilitated lead dissolution.

Sequential extraction was used and allowed to detect that PbCO3 was not occuring anymore in the residual fractions.
