Additional information

In Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, it is laid down that long-term toxicity testing shall be proposed by the registrant if the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects on aquatic organisms.

Since the results of the short-term test indicate that Daphnia magna is the most sensitive species, it is supposed that aquatic invertebrates will be also more sensitive to long-term exposure of the test mixture than organisms of the other trophic levels (e.g. fish or algae). Therefore, and for reasons of animal welfare, long-term studies on fish does not need to be conducted and possible chronic effects of the mixture “dodecene, hydroformylation products, high-boiling” will be evaluate in a long-term test with Daphnia magna (s. chap. 6.1.4).
