Details on results:
1 ml n-octanol was added to 1031.6 mg of the test substance in a reaction tube. The solution was clear and no undissolved test substance was observed. After 6 days of stirring all test substance was still dissolved. Based on this, it was concluded that the n-octanol solubility of Hatcol 5150 is ≥ 1.0e+3 g/l at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C.
Conclusions:
The partition coefficient (n-octanol/water), Pow, calculated as a quotient of the n-octanol solubility and the water solubility of Hatcol 5150, is ≥ 1.1E+8 (log Pow ≥8 .0) at 20.3 ± 0.8 °C.
Executive summary:

The determination of the partition coefficient (n-octanol/water) of Hatcol 5150 was based on the following guidelines:

Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), OECD guidelines for testing of chemicals no.107: "Partiton coeffcient (n-octanollwater): Shake Flask Method", Adopted July 27, 1995.

EEC directive 92/69 EEC, Part A, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties, A.8: "Partition coefficient", EEC Publication no. L383. December 1992.

The Estimation method was performed for the determination of the partition coefficient (n-octanol/water), Pow of Hatcol 5150.

Estimation method

The n-octanol solubility of Hatcol 5150 was determined to be ≥ 1.0x103 g/l at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C

The water solubility of Hatcol 5150 at 20.4 ± 0.7 °C is < 9x10-8 g/l (see NOTOX project 388024).

The pH was measured to be 7.8 -7.9.

The partition coefficient (n-octanol/water), Pow, calculated as a quotient of the n-octanol solubility and the water solubility of Hatcol 5150, is ≥ 1.1x108 (log Pow ≥8 .0) at 20.3 ± 0.8 °C.

Description of key information

The partition coefficient (n-octanol/water), Pow, calculated as a quotient of the n-octanol solubility and the water solubility of Hatcol 5150, is ≥ 1.1x108(log Pow ≥8 .0) at 20.3 ± 0.8 °C.
