Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

There are no experimental data available on skin or eye corrosion/irritation.

F-DIOX acid is produced and used in aqueous solution. The aqueous solution of F-DIOX acid 5% (w/w) has a pH = 1.09 (25°C).

As the extreme pH ≤ 2 indicates the potential to cause severe skin effects and serious eye damage, the following classification is proposed for F-DIOX acid:
Classification: SKIN Corrosive Category 1A.
Hazard statement: H314: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage.

Justification for classification or non-classification

F-DIOX acid is produced and used as chemical intermediate under strictly controlled conditions.

Based on internal data, the aqueous solution of F-DIOX acid 5% (w/w) has a pH = 1.09 (25°C).

As reported in the technical guidances for REACH and CLP, pH extremes such as 2 and 11,5 may indicate the potential to cause skin effects and serious eye damage. According to the tier testing strategy described in the REACH guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment R7.a, chemicals with a pH ≤ 2 can be assumed as corrosive for the skin and considered for the classification as severe eye irritant.

On this ground, according to CLP Regulation 1272/2008, classification of F-DIOX acid is the following:

SKIN Corrosive Category 1A, Hazard statement: H314: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage.

Eye Damage 1, Hazard statement: H318: Causes serious eye damage.
