Endpoint:
surface tension
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2009
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test sample (Hydrolysed reaction products of furan-2,5-dione and C15-18-(linear and branched)-alkenes ref PO709-4739) was analysed in duplicate in a torsion balance by measuring the force required to pull a De Nouy ring through a Hydrolysed reaction products of furan-2,5-dione and C15-18-(linear and branched)-alkenes/water interface. Interfacial tension is a measurement relating to the hydrophilic/hydrophobic properties of a liquid.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
ring method
Key result
Surface tension:
18.5 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Conc.:
100 mg/L

Duplicate results of 18.5 mN/m and 18.5 mN/m were obtained for the surface tension determination.

Conclusions:
The average value obtained for the interfacial tension determination was 18.5mN/. Since the surface tension is below 60mN/m, it should be regarded as being a surface-active material.
Executive summary:

The average value obtained for the interfacial tension determination of the test sample Hydrolysed reaction products of furan-2,5-dione and C15-18-(linear and branched)-alkenes (solvent PO709-4739) was 18.5mN/m. Since the surface tension is below 60mN/m, it should be regarded as being a surface-active material.

Description of key information

The surface tension determination of Hydrolysed reaction products of furan-2,5-dione and C15-18-(linear and branched)-alkenes (solvent PO709-4739) is reported to be 18.5 mN/m.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
18.5
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
