Ready Biodegradability in Water: Modified OECD Screening Test
The ready biodegradability of the test item was evaluated in the 28-day Modified OECD Screening Test, an experimental study according to the OECD Guideline 301 E (1981) and the EU Method C.4-B (1992). The degradation of the test item in test medium was monitored by recording the percentage degratation of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) over 28 days, and was performed in duplicate. Tests using an abiotic control (test item in a sterile medium), a procedure control (a reference compound (Aniline) in the test medium) and a toxicity control (test item, Aniline and inoculum) were also performed in parallel.
Inherent Biodegradability in Water: Zahn-Wellens/EMPA Test
The inherent biodegradability of the test item was evaluated in the "Zahn-Wellens/EMPA Test", an experimental study according to the OECD Guideline 302 B (1981) and the Directive 87/302 EEC (1987). A preliminary test determined the concentration of the test item in test medium. The degradation of the test item in inoculum was monitored by recording the percentage degratation of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) weekly, for 28 days, and in duplicate. A procedure control test (a reference compound (Aniline) in inoculum) was also performed in parallel.
