Farnesol
Reference substance:
Farnesol
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The substance is not persistent, as two ready biodegradation studies have demonstrated >70% degradation after 28 days and a third biodegradation study demonstrated 51.7% degradation after 28 days. As the substance is a mixture of E and Z isomers, the 10 -day window criterion does not apply (EFEO/IFRA Guidelines on the Environmental Assessment of Natural Complex Substances (NCS), 2016). The substance is therefore considered to be readily biodegradable based on the weight of evidence. Measured log Kow values range from 4.6 to 4.78, indicating that the substance is potentially bioaccumulative. The substance is not considered to be toxic based on ecotoxicity and mammalian toxicity data.

Overall, the substance is not considered to be PBT or vP/vB.
