Endpoint:
adsorption / desorption: screening
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2017-04-03 to 2017-06-08
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 121 (Estimation of the Adsorption Coefficient (Koc) on Soil and on Sewage Sludge using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC))
Version / remarks:
2001
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
HPLC estimation method
Media:
soil/sewage sludge
Radiolabelling:
no
Test temperature:
40°C
Details on study design: HPLC method:
While passing through the cyanopropyl column along with the mobile phase, the test item interacts with the stationary phase. Polar and non-polar interactions with stationary phase are similar to interactions with organic matter in soil or sewage sludge matrices, which enables the relationship between the
retention time on the column and the adsorption coefficient on organic matter to be established.
The adsorption coefficient Koc of the test item is calculated based on the calibration curve using 6 reference items for which the Koc value is known.
Key result
Sample No.:
#1
Type:
Koc
Remarks on result:
not determinable
Remarks:
Test item was not detected by the test system.
Details on results (HPLC method):
Test item was not detected by the test system when test system is used with the OECD 121 guideline cyanopropyl column. Detection system is appropriate, as test item is detected at the expected wavelength without column.
A supplementary experiment was conducted with extended run time (2 h) to ensure that test item was not lately eluted. Results confirm that test item is not detected.
OECD 121 guideline is not applicable to the test item to estimate adsorption coefficient.
Validity criteria fulfilled:
not applicable
Conclusions:
Test item was not detected by the test system when test system is used with the OECD 121 guideline cyanopropyl column. Detection system is appropriate, as test item is detected at the expected wavelength without column.
A supplementary experiment was conducted with extended run time (2 h) to ensure that test item was not lately eluted. Results confirm that test item is not detected, as shown in appendix.
OECD 121 guideline is not applicable to the test item to estimate adsorption coefficient.

Description of key information

A guideline study was conducted under OECD 121 protocol to estimate adsorption coefficient on soil and on sewage sludge using HPLC. The method was not suitable for the substance because the substance was not detected by the test system.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
