Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Biodegradation:

Based on reliable experimental data (OECD 301 F, GLP) Ethyl hexanoate was tested to be readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria. The substance further has no inhibitory effects on microorganisms at a concentration of 100 mg/L.

Henry´s Law constant:

Evaporation into the air is considered to be low based on a calculated Henry´s Law Constant value of 85.2 Pa m3/mol at 20°C derived with the formula in ECHA Guidance R.16 (Guidance on information requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment, Chapter R.16: Environmental exposure assessment).

Hydrolysis and adsorption:

Ethyl hexanoate is readily biodegradable and further has a log Kow value below 3 (log Kow = 2.96). Both values indicate that the adsorption to organic sediments and soil particles is low. Furthermore, the abiotic degradation (hydrolysis) of the substance is not considered to be a relevant degradation pathway in the environment.
