Reference
Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Justification for type of information:
data is from experimental reports
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The water solubility determination of test item Aluminium tristearate (CAS No. 637-12-7) was done as per the OECD guideline 105 and by spectrophotometric analytical method as per OECD 101.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
flask method
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Name of test material (as cited in study report):Aluminium tristearate- Molecular formula : C18H36O2.1/3Al- Molecular weight: 877.3995 g/mol- Substance type: Organic- Physical state: Solid
Key result
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Temp.:
30 °C
Remarks on result:
other: insoluble in water
Details on results:
0.1 g of test material was added in 100 ml RO water and stirred for 96 hours. Confirmatory test couldnot be performed since the test chemical was insoluble in water. It is only soluble in organic solvents and reappears after adding water.
Conclusions:
The water solubility determination of test item Aluminium tristearate [CAS No.637-12-7] was done by spectrophotometric method. The water solubility was determined to be Insoluble in water at 30°C.
Executive summary:

The water solubility determination of test item Aluminium tristearate (CAS No. 637-12-7) was done as per the OECD guideline 105 and by spectrophotometric analytical method as per OECD 101. The solubility of Aluminium tristearate [CAS: 637-12 -7] in water was determined to be Insoluble in water at 30°C.

Description of key information

The water solubility determination of test item Aluminium tristearate (CAS No. 637-12-7) was done as per the OECD guideline 105 and by spectrophotometric analytical method as per OECD 101. The solubility of Aluminium tristearate [CAS: 637-12 -7] in water was determined to be Insoluble in water at 30°C.

Data from various handbooks and authoritative databases suggests that Aluminum stearate was practically insoluble in water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
0 mg/L

25 °C

Additional information

The water solubility determination of test item Aluminium tristearate (CAS No. 637-12-7) was done as per the OECD guideline 105 and by spectrophotometric analytical method as per OECD 101. The solubility of Aluminium tristearate [CAS: 637-12 -7] in water was determined to be Insoluble in water at 30°C.

WSKOW v1.42 was used to estimate the water solubility of the Aluminum stearate

The estimated water solubility of Aluminum stearate at 25 deg C was 9.386E-020 mg/l.

Data from various handbooks and authoritative databases suggests that Aluminum stearate was practically insoluble in water.

Hence, on the basis of the estimated value and experimental results, Aluminum stearate can be considered to be highly insoluble in water.
