Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

There is no data available for diethyl butylmalonate (CAS # 133 -08 -4). For C&L purposes, the following data available for structurally similar substances cited in the 2006 OECD SIDS “malonic acid diesters” (UNEP Publications, Final 10/2006) is suitable for read across:

Dimethylmalonate, CAS # 108-59-8

not skin sensitising

Diethylmalonate, CAS # 105-53-3

not skin sensitising

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

There is no data available for diethyl butylmalonate (CAS # 133 -08 -4). For C&L purposes, the following data available for structurally similar substances cited in the 2006 OECD SIDS “malonic acid diesters” (UNEP Publications, Final 10/2006) is suitable for read across:

Dimethylmalonate, CAS # 108-59-8

DMM was not sensitizing in a Bühler Test in guinea pigs according to OECD TG 406 and GLP

(OECD SIDS, 2006)

In a maximization test with 25 volunteers DMM was not sensitizing when applied at a concentration

of 8 % in petrolatum (Kligman, 1966; Kligman, 1976; Kligman and Epstein, 1975, studies cited in OECD SIDS, 2006).

Diethylmalonate, CAS # 105-53-3

DEM was reported not to have sensitizing properties in a maximization test in 23 human volunteers when

applied at a concentration of 4 % in petrolatum (Epstein, 1975 cited in OECD SIDS, 2006).

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion:
no study available

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data for read across substances Dimethylmalonate, CAS # 108-59-8 and Diethylmalonate, CAS # 105 -53 -3, there is no indication that Diethyl butylmalonate (CAS # 133 -08 -4) would require classification for skin sensitisation.
