Additional information

There is only very restricted information available which can give a hint on the skin irritancy potential of Diketene. The substance was tested for its skin irritant properties in rabbits and both publications confirm skin irritation.

The information on eye irritancy properties of Diketene is also not reliable. Diketene was tested for its eye irritant properties in rabbits and irreversible effects on conjunctivae and iris were observed in the animals after application.

Effects on eye irritation: irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

Only a limited amount of invalid data which might give a hint on the skin and eye irritation properties of Diketene is available. However, for precautionary reasons Diketene is be classified as irritant to the skin (XI; R37/38 - irritating to respiratory system/skin; STOT SE 3; H335 - may cause respiratory irritation; Skin Irrit. 2; H315 - causes skin irritation) and eye (Xi; R41 - risk of serious damage to eyes; Eye Dam.1; H318 - causes serious eye damage) according to the criteria laid down in the EU Dangerous Substances Directive (67/548/EEC) and in the EU Classification Labelling and Packaging Regulation (1272/2008/EC).
