Additional information

A study was performed to assess the ready biodegradability of the test material in an aerobic aqueous media. The method followed OECD Guideline 301B (1992) and EU Method C.4-C. Test material was exposed to activated sewage sludge at a concentration of 10 mg carbon/L for 28 days. The degradation of the test material was assessed by determination of carbon dioxide produced. The test material attained 31% degradation after 28 days and therefore did not meet the criteria for ready biodegradability. Certain biodegradation was observed (31 % during 28 days exposure period) indicating that the test compound is possibly not persistent but ultimately biodegradable. The toxicity control attained 90 % degradation after 28 days, confirming that the test material was not toxic to the micro-organisms used in the study. Sodium benzoate attained complete degradation after 28 days, confirming suitability of inoculum and test conditions.
