Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Direct phototransformation and photolysis in air are not regarded as an important environmental fate process of this substance. The constituents are not volatile in alkaline conditions (excluding water). Volatile gases can be evolved, H2S in neutral and acidic conditions and CO2 in acidic conditions. Direct photolysis is not an important degradation process, since these gases may absorb natural light photons effectively, but the reactions do not lead to remarkable decomposition/destruction of these gases. Instead, indirect photodegradation of H2S is important process and it effectively and rapidly oxidizes hydrogen sulfide to SO2. The oxidation reaction is mediated primarily by photochemically generated hydroxyl (OH.) radicals.
