Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Name:
molybdenum disulfide
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: bulk
Reference substance:
molybdenum disulfide
Contributing activity / technique for the environment
Name of activity / technique:
Catalyst activation.
The substance is manufactured by converting the metal oxide on the catalyst to the metal sulfide under presence of hydrogen and sulfuric compounds. The process water is drained off. The activation process takes place in situ in a dedicated reactor. After the sulfidation the catalyst is active for further hydroprocessing.
Environmental release category (ERC):
ERC1: Manufacture of the substance
Contributing activity / technique for workersopen allclose all
Name of activity / technique:
Use as a catalyst.
After activation, the catalyst can be used for various hydroprocessing options such as hydrotreating, hydro-desulfurization or hydrocracking. The processes take place in a closed reactor under elevated temperature and pressure.
Process category (PROC):
PROC 1: Chemical production or refinery in closed process without likelihood of exposure or processes with equivalent containment conditions
Name of activity / technique:
Discharge of the spent catalyst.
After the activity of the catalyst has detoriated the processes it stopped and the catalyst is unloaded from the reactor. This can be done by either vacuum from the top of the reactor or trough a dedicated nozzle at the bottoms of the reactor. The uses/spent catalyst is filled into suitable containers for further transportion.
Process category (PROC):
PROC 8b: Transfer of substance or mixture (charging and discharging) at dedicated facilities
Related assessment:
use assessed in a joint CSR
