Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
surface tension
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
28 May 2010- 5 August 2010
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
This study has been performed according to OECD and EC guidelines and according to GLP principles. The test substance is adequately characterised. Therefore full validation applies.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 115 (Surface Tension of Aqueous Solutions)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
OECD harmonised ring method
Key result
Surface tension:
75.3 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Conc.:
1 g/L

The water calibration factor was calculated to be 1.03.

The mean of five consistent measurements was 73.1 mN/m (before correction).

Conclusions:
In the experimental conditions, the test substance is NOT considered to be surface active.
Executive summary:

The surface tension of diluminium chloride pentahydroxide was measured according to OECD 115/EU A5 guidelines, ring method.

The mean of five consecutive consistent measurements, at the maximum testing concentration of 1 g/L in double-distilled water and 20°C, was corrected with calibration factor from water and according to Harkins-Jordan table.

The final retained result is 75.3 mN/m.

Description of key information

Dialuminium chloride pentahydroxide is NOT considered as surface-active.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
75.3
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1 000

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized OECD/EC method and under GLP, is available. Therefore, it is considered as a key study, and the result is retained as key data.

Furthermore, inorganic substances are generally known to have no impact or slightly increase the surface tension of water.
