Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Eyes: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get immediate medical attention.

Skin: Wash with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation occurs.

Ingestion: If the affected person is fully conscious, give one glass of water to drink. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention if symptoms appear.

Inhalation: If inhaled, remover to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If not breathing, give artifical respiration. Get medical attention immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agents: Water spray (fog), foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.

Protective equipment: Firefighters should wear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCUBA) and full turnout gear.

Accidental release measures

Immediately contact emergency personnel. Eliminate all sources of ignition.

Use suitable protective equipment: chemical resistant impervious gloves, respiratory equipment, eye protection (safety goggles or safety goggles with a face shield, depending on quantity, exposure and conditions), and chemical resistant outer garments.

Follow all fire fighting procedures. Do not touch or walk through spilled material.

If emergency personnel are unavailable, contain spilled material. For small spills add absorbent (soild may be used in the absence of other suitable materials) and use a non-sparking or explosion proof means to transfer material to a sealed, appropriate contain for disposal. For large spills, dike spilled material or otherwise contain material to ensure runoff does not reach a waterway. Place spilled material in an appropriate container for disposal. Minimise contact of spilled materials with soils to prevent runoff to surface waterways.

Handling and storage

The substance should be stored, handled and used in conditions of good industrial hygiene, and in conformity with local regulations in order to minimise exposure.

Handling

Avoid contact with eyes.  Keep container closed.  Use only with adequate ventilation.  Avoid breathing vapor or mist.  Keep awayfrom heat, sparks and flame.  To avoid fire or explosion, dissipate static electricity during transfer by grounding and bondingcontainers and equipment before transferring material.  Use explosion-proof electrical (ventilating, lighting and material handling)equipment.  Wash thoroughly after handling.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry, well ventilated area.

Keep containers tightly closed and sealed until ready for use.

Avoid all possible sources of ignition. (Spark or flame).

Exposure controls / personal protection

Chemical protective gloves to Standard EN374

Chemical resistant clothing to Standard EN368

Eye protection to Standard EN 166

These standard should be regarded as a minimum.

Stability and reactivity

Vapours may cause a flash fire. Vapous may accumulate in low or confined areas, travel considerable distance to source of ignition aand flash back. Runoff to sewer may create a fire or explsoion hazard.

The substance is combustible and will burn if involved in a fire, evolving noxious fumes e.g. carbon and phosphorous oxides.

Disposal considerations

Spills or leaks sent for on-site treatment including an API (American Petroleum Institute) type separator for oil removal followed by inlet to a CPI (Corrugated plate Interceptor) for further oil removal and biological treatment. (This process removes 98% of all hydrocarbons). The waste oil is then sent for incineration or to a used oil recycler who re-refines the aste oil into fresh lubricant oil base stock using hydrocracking technology.

Waste from blending operations is also dealt with in a manner similar to the above described methods.

Any spills of the finished lubricant by OEMs and service professional is expected to be disposed of responsibly to oil recyclers or incineration.
