Description of key information

Because decamethylenediamine is a strong base (pH = 12) the substance is classified into Skin Corr. Category 1B (H314: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage) and Eye Damage 1 (H318: Causes serious eye damage) according to EC Regulation 1272/2008.


Assessment of decamethylenediamine concerning respiratory irritation is also not possible because no data are available for this toxicological endpoint.

Justification for selection of skin irritation / corrosion endpoint:
According to REACH Annex VIII 8.1.1. column 2 an in vivo skin irritation study does not need to be conducted if the substance is classified as corrosive to the skin.

Justification for selection of eye irritation endpoint:
According to REACH Annex VIII 8.2.1. column 2 an in vivo eye irritation study does not need to be conducted if the substance is classified as corrosive to the skin.
