Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicokinetics and metabolism ofchloroethylenehave been comprehensively reviewed in both animal and human experimental systems and reported elsewhere (IARC 2008, WHO, 1999, ATSDR, 2006).

Overall, chloroethylene is absorbedvia all routes of exposure and rapidly distributed throughout the body. Chloroethylene is metabolized in the liver to a reactive metabolite, chloroethylene oxide, which is reported to be the ultimate carcinogenic metabolite of chloroethyle. This reactive metabolite then binds to DNA, forming DNA adducts that, if not repaired, result in mutations and tumor formation.

Overall, the toxicokonetics data available for chloroethylene is well understood and sufficient to perform the safety assessment of this chemical.
