Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Hafnium is marketed in a massive form such as sponge, bar, electrolytic crystal and shot, thus, hafnium can have many particles size distributions depending on the manufacturing process and intended uses. Therefore, it was estimated not relevant to conduct a particle size distribution test.

Additional information

On the basis of column 2 of the REACH regulation on standard information requirements (Annex VII, section 7.14), it is not necessary to conduct a study if the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or non granular form. Hf is marketed in a massive form such as sponge, bar, electrolytic crystal and shot, therefore there is no need to perform this test.

It could be relevant to perform this test on Hf powder form if it is put on the market as such. However, it should be noted that Hafnium can have many particle size distributions depending on the manufacturing process and intended uses. It is therefore not possible to conclude a representative d50 and the value obtained should be individually considered representative.

Thus, the test on powder form was not conducted.
