Additional information

Ames test:

C. I. Pigment Violet 55 did not induce a significant dose-related increase in the number of revertant (His+) colonies in each of the four tester strains (TA1535, TA1537, TA98 and TA100) and in the number of revertant (Trp+) colonies in the tester strain WP2uvrA both in the absence and presence of S9-metabolic activation. These results were confirmed in a follow-up experiment.

Justification for selection of genetic toxicity endpoint
One Ames test + one supporting AMES study

Short description of key information:
C.I. Pigment Violet 55 was tested in the Salmonella typhimurium reverse mutation assay with TA 1535, TA 1537, TA 100, TA 98 and WP2uvrA according to OECD Guideline 471 and GLP principles.

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available studies, it can be concluded that C.I. Pigment Violet 55 is not considered mutagenic/clastogenic according to EC regulation 1272/2008.
