Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Eye contact: Rinse thoroughly with water. Continue for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical attention.

Skin contact: Wash thoroughly with soap and water.

Ingestion: Wash mouth with water. Give water to drink. Obtain medical attention.

Inhalation: Remove affected person to fresh air. If symptoms (coughing, irritation to the eyes, nose and throat) persist, obtain medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Do not use water jet. Extinguish fires with dry chemical powder or alcohol-resistant foam. Water spray (not jet) may also be used. Carbon dioxide is suitable for small fires.

Product arising from burning: Products of combustion include phosphorus pentoxide and titanium dioxide.

Highly flammable liquid. In a fire or if heated, a pressure increase will occur and the container may burst, with the risk of a subsequent explosion. Runoff to sewer may create fire or explosion hazard.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Absorb on sand or earth and remove to a safe place. Destroy

by incineration, in a plant capable of handling the

phosphorus pentoxide which is expected to be produced.

Handling and storage

Handling: Protective goggles must be worn and PVC or rubber gloves are advisable. No smoking or naked lights. Use in areas of good

ventilation.

Storage: Store in polythene-lined mild steel drums in a cool place away from all possible sources of ignition. Emply containers can cause explosion or fire hazard as containers will retain product residues.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Use only with adequate ventilation.  Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to keep worker exposure to airborne contaminants below any recommended or statutory limits.

Wash hands, forearms and face thoroughly after handling.

Hand protection: Chemical resistant, impervious gloves complying with an approved standard should be worn when handling chemical products.

Respiratory protection: Use a properly fitted, air purifying or air-fed respirator complying with an approved standard should be worn when identified as required during risk assessment.

Eye protection: Safety eyewear complying with an approved standard should be used when a risk assessment indicates this is necessary to prevent exposure to liquid splashes, mists and dusts.

Skin protection: Personal protective equipment for the body should be selected based upon the taks being performed and the risks involved and should be approved by a specialist before handling this product.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: The volatile components can form explosive mixture with air

(limits approximately 2% to 19% by volume).

Disposal considerations

The generation of waste should be avoided or minimised wherever possible. Empty

containers or liners may retain some product residues. This material and its

container must be disposed of in a safe way. Dispose of surplus and non-recyclable

products via a licensed waste disposal contractor. Disposal of this product, solutions

and any by-products should at all times comply with the requirements of

environmental protection and waste disposal legislation and any regional local

authority requirements. Avoid dispersal of spilt material and runoff and contact with

soil, waterways, drains and sewers.

The container for this product can present explosion or fire hazards, even when

emptied. To avoid risk of injury, do not cut, puncture or weld on or near this

container. Since the emptied container retains product residue, follow label warnings

even after it has been emptied.
