Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Pidolic Acid has been determined to be readily biodegradable (OECD 301 Ready Biodegradability; Laboratoire de Chimie-Ecotoxicologie 402/16/1215F/a-e; Jequel, M; 2017), therefore the substance is not expected to be persistent, very persistent, bioaccumulative or very bioaccumulative.

Studies were performed to assess the acute oral and inhalation toxicity of the substance in the Wistar strain rat. No toxicity or mortality was observed in these studies, and therefore pidolic acid was not classified for acute toxicity.

The No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) for a Combined Repeated Dose Toxicity Study with the Reproduction/Developmental Toxicity Screening Test by Oral Gavage in Wistar rats for the test item Pidolic Acid was determined to be 1000 mg/kg bwt/day (highest dose), and therefore pidolic acid is not toxic.

Based on the findings of a number ecotoxicological studies, pidolic acid was not found to be very toxic to non-target organisms.
