Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Trichloro(4-methylphenyl)silane (CAS 701-35-9) degrades rapidly in water via hydrolysis (half-life < 1 min at 1.5 °C and pH 4-7). The transformation products are (4-methylphenyl)silanetriol and hydrochloric acid. On the basis of available data, the silanol hydrolysis product is water soluble (520 mg/L) and bears a low volatility (vepour pressure <2.9E-04 Pa) and adsorption potential (log Koc of 0.708). Therefore the main compartment of distribution is expected to be the water column.

The physicochemical parameters and environmental fate of the second hydrolysis product hydrochloric acid are well known and described in the SIDS initial assessment report for SIAM 15: HCl (OECD 2002).
