Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

GHS

General Information

Name:
Quaternary ammonium compounds, coco alkyltrimethyl, chlorides
Implementation:
EU
Type of classification:
self-classification
Remarks:

The test substance contains isopropanol (<0.5%) and methyl chloride (<0.1%), which are currently listed in Annex VI (Part 3) of the CLP regulation with harmonised classifications i.e., Flam. Liq. 2, Eye Irrit. 2 and STOT SE. 3 for isopropanol and Press. Gas, Flam. Gas 1, STOT RE 2 and Carc. 2 for methyl chloride. However, their presence in the test substance does not trigger any additional mixture classification for the STOT SE 3, STOT RE 2 or Carc. 2, because:

a)       The isopropanol level in the test substance is well below the mixture classification cut-offs defined for STOTE SE. 3 (i.e., 20%); further the Eye Irrit. 2 classifications have no impact as the test substance has a higher classification as Skin Corr. 1C;

b)       The methyl chloride level in the test substance is well below the mixture classification cut-offs defined for STOTE RE. 2 (i.e., 10%) and Carc. 2 (i.e., 1%);

Additionally, the classification presented below is for the pure substance. However, the marketed substance is often produced in solution and therefore the classification for the marketed substance will be less severe.
