Additional information

Dimethylbis(octadecyloxy)silane has been tested for acute skin irritation in an occlusive study conducted according to a protocol equivalent or similar to OECD TG 404 (Pharmatox, 1983a). The test substance was applied to the shaved and abraded skin of eight rabbits for twenty-four hours. No signs of skin irritation were observed. It is concluded that the test substance is not irritating to the skin.

Dimethylbis(octadecyloxy)silane has been tested for acute eye irritation in a study conducted according to a protocol equivalent or similar to OECD TG 405 (Pharmatox, 1983b). Conjunctival redness and discharge was observed in all animals one hour after test substance application but were resolved by 4 hours after application. It is concluded that the test substance is not irritating to eyes.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data, dimethylbis(octadecyloxy)silane is not classified for skin or eye irritation according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
