Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Experimental studies were conducted to determine the ecotoxicological effects of OFPMA; specifically:

-        Fish embryo toxicity (OECD Guideline 236);

-        Acute daphnia toxicity (OECD Guideline 202);

-        Chronic daphnia toxicity (OECD Guideline 211) of both OFPMA and its degradation product;

-        Freshwater algae inhibition (OECD Guideline 201); and

-        Activated sludge respiration inhibition (OECD Guideline 209).

The fish embryo toxicity (FET) study results were further supported by nine QSAR 96-hour acute fish toxicity predictions.

A review of the ecotoxicological data set as a whole as identified algae to be the most sensitive aquatic species with a measured 72-hour algae EC50 value of 4.4 mg/L. Therefore, further aquatic vertebrate testing of OFPMA is not necessary to address the regulatory requirement.

Also, the chronic daphnia toxicity results of the OFPMA degradation product octafluoro-1-pentanol, which report a 21-day NOEC of 73 mg/L, the highest concentration tested, indicate that there is no chronic toxicity concern.
