Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

ErC50 (72 h) = 1.7 mg a.i./L (measured) and NOErC (72 h) = 0.38 mg a.i./L (measured) for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (OECD 201).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
1.7 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.38 mg/L

Additional information

As no algae study is available for assessing the toxicity of the substance, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, a read-across to the structurally related Alkyl Dimethyl Betaine (EC-No. 931-700-2) was applied. The read across is justified due to the structural similarity of the analogue substances and similar physico-chemical properties resulting in a similar environmental fate and ecotoxicity profile. Further justification is given in the analogue justification attached to section 13 in IUCLID.

For EC-No. 931-700-2 a GLP-study was performed according to OECD guideline 201. Based on growth rate an EC50 (72 h) of 1.7 mg a.i./L (measuredl) for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined. The corresponding NOEC (72 h) was 0.38 mg a.i./L (measured) (Hutchinson, 2010).
