Description of key information
The 72-h EL50 to the planktonic alga, Raphidocelis subcapitata, was found to be >1000 mg/L (highest tested nominal loading rate).

In a GLP study based on OECD and EU guidelines, a water accommodation fraction (WAF) of the test material was tested for toxicity, in sealed vessels without renewal of the test media, to the freshwater planktonic alga, Raphidocelis subcapitata. Cell concentration, and therefore growth inhibition, was assessed at a nominal loading rate of 1000 mg/L (limit test) after 24, 48 and 72 h of incubation. Measured concentrations were 0,61mg/l at start of test, however at the end of testing it was not possible to interpret the concentration due to the type of analysis and interference with media. There was no significant difference in cell numbers in the control and treated cultures at any of the time periods, indicating that a WAF of the test material prepared at a nominal loading rate of 1000 mg/L was not toxic to these planktonic algae over 72 h, under the conditions of this test. Stability was expected to be maintained and so with no toxicity the NOAEL could be considered to be >0.61mg/l. However with no confirmation possible, the 72-h EL50 and 72-h NOELR (no-observed-effect loading rate) are considered to be > 1000 mg/L (the highest nominal loading rate).
