Ferrous slags

Justifications and discussions

Category definition:
Ferrous slags result from the making of iron and steel, and consist mainly of fused oxides of aluminium, calcium, magnesium, iron and silicon
Category description:
ABS/GBS-BOS-EAF C-EAF S-SMS (in general, increasing complexity of manufacturing process). For technical reasons of IUCLID editing EAF is included and placed between BOS and EAF C
Category rationale:
Although the method of production and exact composition of ferrous slag may vary, the slag have a majority of properties in common e.g. formation at temperatures of >= 1500 °C as a byproductof the same processes (iron and steelmaking); formation from ores, raw material and fluxes; physico-chemical properties, very low ecotoxicity potential, and very low toxicity.
