Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Test on biodegradation are not relevant if the substance is inorganic.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The substance is an inorganic hydroxide and is as such not subject to biodegradation. According to Annex VII of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006, 9.2.1.1 the study does not need to be conducted if the substance inorganic. Furthermore, Magnesium hydroxide has a very low propensity for adsorption to soil (derived Kd value of 1.65). In accordance with REACH Annex IX, endpoint 9.2.1.3 soil simulation testing is foreseen for substances with a high potential for adsorption to soil. Thus, testing is neither technically possible for this inorganic substance nor required due to the low potential for adsorption.
